ZION GLOBAL EXPANDS IN GREATER CINCINNATI WITH LOCAL PARTNERSHIPS
Starting in March 2019, ZGMissions launched a new workforce and transportation service - Gigshuttle! We are partnering with Amazon and other regional employers by hosting community hiring events that will be accessible to low income consumers who are unemployed or underemployed and have no access to reliable transportation. Jobs with a livable wage are harder to get to; employers struggle with finding workers for second/third shift jobs. Our community suffers, families aren't stable or have a path to self-sufficiency. To date, ZGMissions has hosted 5 hiring events attended by 150+ people. Thirty have succeeded in getting employment. Thorugh a partnership with Zion Global Ministries, we utilize church vehicles to provide daily shuttle service from Cincinnati neighborhoods to Amazon warehouse locations in Hebron KY. An added bonus is connecting each of the new workers with a mentor for up to 6 months. Also workers begin to contribute for their shuttle assistance after 3 months of continuous employment. Our goal is transportation independence after six months by starting a "transportation fund" that will allow the purchase or repair of a vehicle. Donation of a "gently used" vehicle is needed so that we can have capacity to meet the transport needs
ZION GLOBAL JOINS HAMILTON COUNTY PROJECT LIFT COLLABORATIVE
Cincinnati ranks as one of the top 5 cities in the U.S. with a high rate of child poverty. The main reason for this is that parents are poor! Low wages, no full time employment, high market rate rental prices and unreliable transportation are just some of the challenges that low income households are facing. To address these chronic issues, ZGMissions has joined forces with 24 nonprofit and public sector organizations to provide financial resources, legal consultation, and fast track enrollment with existing services in order to break the poverty cycle and fill the income gap. All clients must be employed, have at least one child under 18 in the household and commit to working on 2-3 personal and employment-related goals, such as finding better employment, developing a realistic household budget or assisting with finding affordable housing. Since joining this collaborative, ZGMissions has enrolled 35 households with 73 children and 9 adults. This is truly the launch of a lift out of poverty!!
KENYA 2019 MISSSIONS TRIP HIGHLIGHTS
Judith Warren, Exec. Director, for ZGMissions travelled to Kenya for the first annual Women's Conference held in Tseikuru. Ninety women and teen girls from 10 - 82 attended! In addition to dynamic speakers, there was time for food and fellowship as women gathered together for 3 days. The girls received special care packages of feminine hygeine projects from Zion Global Ministries USA. These items are not readily available in the local villages and not having these essentials causes girls to miss school, putting them behind with their education and future success. Warren also had an opportuity to travel to Kisumu, Kenya and Alego village to visit the Barack Hussein Obama Center Sr. Centre for Knowledge, Learning & Excellence. The Centre was developed by President Obama's sister, Auma Obama and her organization, Sauti Kuu Foundation. Sauti Kuu is Kswahili for "strong voices". Sauti Kuu will be mentoring Zion Global Missions for development of programs and land within the ZGMissions area.
