Judith Warren and Brenda Daniels will be travelling to Kenya and Zambia in September!!
We will visit Zion Global Ministries and catch up on mission work in Kitui County, Kenya and then move onto Zambia to celebrate two years of ministry with Pastors Gorden and Jacqueline at Zion Global Ministries Zambia. This will be an exciting time to spend with our church leaders, members, visit the villages and share donated items from ZGMinistries USA. We will also spend time in Nairobi with the Makaya family and a day at the Liberty Vision Learning Center. Chipo Makaya serves as the Learning Center Director*. We look forward to sharing with our supporters when we return. *Click here to read the June Liberty Visions Newsletter Greetings… We made it to 2022 by the grace of God! Let us continue to pray for comfort, healing and protection of everyone from the COVID pandemic. It certainly interrupted and changed lives around the world in 2021. Let us pray for provision, peace and that people will walk in wisdom as we seek to protect ourselves and others. Through it all, Zion Global Missions was able to continue vital local and global missions work. THANK YOU for your continued financial support in carrying out the vision of Zion Global Ministries and Missions – Reaching, Teaching, Restoring and Building. - Judith Warren Download the newsletter below to read the full quarterly update!
Despite working full-time to support herself and her two young children, Tanika Newell had fallen behind on her electric bills. She worried about having no heat in winter.
Newell was pregnant with her second child when she mentioned her transportation dilemma to a staff member at Health Care Access Now. The agency referred Newell to Zion Global Ministries, one of 22 sponsor organizations of Project Lift, a public/private partnership operated by United Way of Greater Cincinnati. Its chief task: remove barriers to securing sustainable income so families can achieve financial stability. Zion Global Missions is one of four
organizations located at the Center to offer social services, employment referral services and youth programs. The other three organizations housed at the Center are Villedge, UpSpring and EasterSeals. We will collaborate and connect clients with available services, offer interagency referrals and outreach events in the Walnut Hills neighborhood. The Center also has a full court gym where our boys’ basketball team, Zion Lions practice. We plan to start a girls’ team as well as enrollment site for Project Lift. Check back for activity updates! ZION GLOBAL EXPANDS IN GREATER CINCINNATI WITH LOCAL PARTNERSHIPS Starting in March 2019, ZGMissions launched a new workforce and transportation service - Gigshuttle! We are partnering with Amazon and other regional employers by hosting community hiring events that will be accessible to low income consumers who are unemployed or underemployed and have no access to reliable transportation. Jobs with a livable wage are harder to get to; employers struggle with finding workers for second/third shift jobs. Our community suffers, families aren't stable or have a path to self-sufficiency. To date, ZGMissions has hosted 5 hiring events attended by 150+ people. Thirty have succeeded in getting employment. Thorugh a partnership with Zion Global Ministries, we utilize church vehicles to provide daily shuttle service from Cincinnati neighborhoods to Amazon warehouse locations in Hebron KY. An added bonus is connecting each of the new workers with a mentor for up to 6 months. Also workers begin to contribute for their shuttle assistance after 3 months of continuous employment. Our goal is transportation independence after six months by starting a "transportation fund" that will allow the purchase or repair of a vehicle. Donation of a "gently used" vehicle is needed so that we can have capacity to meet the transport needs ZION GLOBAL JOINS HAMILTON COUNTY PROJECT LIFT COLLABORATIVE Cincinnati ranks as one of the top 5 cities in the U.S. with a high rate of child poverty. The main reason for this is that parents are poor! Low wages, no full time employment, high market rate rental prices and unreliable transportation are just some of the challenges that low income households are facing. To address these chronic issues, ZGMissions has joined forces with 24 nonprofit and public sector organizations to provide financial resources, legal consultation, and fast track enrollment with existing services in order to break the poverty cycle and fill the income gap. All clients must be employed, have at least one child under 18 in the household and commit to working on 2-3 personal and employment-related goals, such as finding better employment, developing a realistic household budget or assisting with finding affordable housing. Since joining this collaborative, ZGMissions has enrolled 35 households with 73 children and 9 adults. This is truly the launch of a lift out of poverty!! KENYA 2019 MISSSIONS TRIP HIGHLIGHTS Judith Warren, Exec. Director, for ZGMissions travelled to Kenya for the first annual Women's Conference held in Tseikuru. Ninety women and teen girls from 10 - 82 attended! In addition to dynamic speakers, there was time for food and fellowship as women gathered together for 3 days. The girls received special care packages of feminine hygeine projects from Zion Global Ministries USA. These items are not readily available in the local villages and not having these essentials causes girls to miss school, putting them behind with their education and future success. Warren also had an opportuity to travel to Kisumu, Kenya and Alego village to visit the Barack Hussein Obama Center Sr. Centre for Knowledge, Learning & Excellence. The Centre was developed by President Obama's sister, Auma Obama and her organization, Sauti Kuu Foundation. Sauti Kuu is Kswahili for "strong voices". Sauti Kuu will be mentoring Zion Global Missions for development of programs and land within the ZGMissions area. Young girls attending the women's conference
